James Pritchett, professor of anthropology and director of the African Studies Center at Michigan State University, discusses the opportunities for students to study Africa. Since the 1970s, more than 1,200 African students have earned an MSU degree; since 1992, more than 1,300 MSU students have studied in Africa; today more than 160 MSU faculty are working in 32 African nations -- more than half the countries on the continent; throughout the past decade, MSU has led the nation in the number of Africa-related doctoral dissertations produced; MSU offers more than 26 study abroad programs in Africa.
