Twelve colleges and 45 departments across the MSU campus are home to more than 150 Africa-specialist faculty in such fields as agriculture, the social sciences, arts and humanities, communication, education, health and medicine, and the sciences. In 2004-06, 22 new African specialists joined the MSU faculty, six specializing in Islamic Africa.
At least 26 Africanists have received faculty Fulbright awards, seven are MSU University Distinguished Professors, seven others received the MSU Distinguished Faculty Award, two are former presidents of the African Studies Association, and more than a dozen have received teaching awards.
The African Studies Center welcomes faculty with experience in Africa to affiliate with the center. The affiliated faculty meet once each semester, and an elected Advisory Committee is active between meetings.
