African Language Instructors wanted for SCALI 2010
June 14 to August 6, 2010
Michigan State University African Studies Center is currently seeking to hire instructors to teach African languages for the 8 weeks at the intensive Summer Cooperative African Languages Institute (SCALI). These individuals will be responsible for providing language instructions for different African languages offered during the summer institute.
Pre-SCALI instructor training/preparation will take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, June 9th and 11th.
Qualifications:
The applicants should be native or second language fluent speakers and, if possible, have experience in teaching African languages offered during the summer Institute. Candidates should have strong command of the English language and demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for language instruction. We look for instructors with skills in developing syllabus, selecting textbooks, and multi-media materials for language instructions. Candidates with teaching experience in a college or university environment and with a degree (B. A., M.A., or Ph.D. are preferred), but other candidates will be considered on a need basis and qualification.
Duties and Responsibilities
Each successful candidate's duties and responsibilities will include teaching one of the levels of the African language offered during SCALI. The levels such a candidate will teach are elementary, intermediate or advanced classes for the eight weeks. Successful candidates are required to attend three days orientation on June 09 -June 11 2010. This job is for eight weeks only. It will start June 14, 2010, and end August 6, 2010. Salary is competitive based on qualifications, experience, and background. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until search is completed.
