Imbolo Mbue, author of Oprah Book Club pick 'Behold the Dreamers,' will be in Lansing April 28 as part of Capital Area Reads, a collaborate between Capital Area District Libraries and the Delta Township District Library that encourages communities to read and discuss a book, attend programming related to it and then meet the author.
Mbue will engage in a candid conversation with WILX TV's Lora Painter about her own experiences and the themes of family, immigration and the American Dream.
"Behold the Dreamers" is set against the backdrop of the financial collapse of 2008.Like the central characters in her novel, Jende and Neni Jonga, Mbue grew up in the seaside town of Limbe in Cameroon.
The event is sponsored by Capital Area District Libraries, Delta Township District Library and Michigan State University's African Studies Center.
