The event features a screening of the 2024 French film No Chains, No Masters followed by a discussion with the films director Simon Moutaïrou and a reception. MSU is among only a handful of American universities selected to debut the film in the U.S.

Inspired by historical accounts of former slaves in West Africa, No Chains, No Masters is set in the French colony of Mauritius Island that follows Massamba, a father, and his teenage daughter Mati who are determined to emancipate themselves from a colonial plantation.
